On August 1st, 2015 Kim, another award winning photographer, and I did a photo shoot for Women in Network kickoff event at Gallery 16, San Francisco. We had a photo booth with props, and it was a big hit.
The photo booth was a simple cross lighting setup with 2 battery operated strobes. We had to use battery operated strobes for safety reasons, as there was no power socket nearby.
Tech Notes:
In any photo shoot, safety is important. As we did not have access to any power socket nearby, we had to use battery operated strobes. The strobes were mounted a c-stands and weighted down with 20 lbs sandbag. The general rule of thumb is to have 3x the weight at the base of the c-stand.
Two Lumedyne #065 200 w/s power packs, #024 mini batteries and #001V 800 w/s standard heads.
Power set to ½ power on the #065 power pack. The trade off was to shoot at a higher ISO – ISO 320.
Two Westcott Halo modifiers.
ExpoDisc White Balance Filter.
Pocket Wizards.
Sekonic L-358. Yes! I use a light meter. You get way better results than eyeballing it on your camera LCD.
Canon 5D Mk II with Canon EF 24 – 70mm f/2.8.
Camera setting: Manual Mode, ISO 320, 1/125s, f/5.6.
Custom White Balance using the ExpoDisc. This saves time trying to correct the WB in post.
